ANU PhD Scholarships in Organic and Biological Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Physical and Theoretical Chemistry

Eligibility
Applications are invited for PhD Research Scholarships in the fields of Biological Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Physical Chemistry and Theoretical Chemistry.

Applicants should be of a high scholastic calibre and should have a capacity for research. They should hold, or expect to hold, a degree of bachelor with at least upper second class honours, or a degree of master, from a recognised university. In special cases, applicants with other qualifications and/or research experience may be considered.

Stipend

Subject to satisfactory progress, a scholarship is tenable for the period of the PhD course, normally three years, and provides a stipend of A$19,231 per annum (tax free). In addition, fares and a grant towards removal expenses are provided.

To complement the ANU PhD Scholarship, School merit-based supplementary scholarships up to $18,000 per annum (tax free) are also available (see Alan Sargeson Merit-based scholarships). ). A $1,000 relocation incentive is also paid to all students moving from Australian interstate to the ACT. For the duration of the scholarship the students will receive support to attend national conferences and will be strongly encouraged and supported to attend one international conference.

New Zealand students are not required to pay full tuition fees as is required of other overseas students. They are, like Australians, included in the Australian Government’s Higher Education Contribution Scheme (HECS). However, they are required to pay Overseas Student Health Cover as they are not eligible for coverage under Medicare. Scholars are eligible for assistance with University accommodation. Students recruited in Australia are eligible for an establishment allowance.

Overseas students are eligible to apply for these scholarship provided that they have separate tuition fee funding. Return airfares to Canberra and a grant for the reimbursement of some removal expenses are normally paid to scholars who are recruited from overseas. If the overseas scholar is married before taking up a scholarship, travel and some removal costs may be paid for the spouse and dependent children.

Closing date for applications
Australians and New Zealanders may apply at any time throughout the year. Australian applicants who also wish to be considered for an Australian Postgraduate Award must lodge their applications by 31 October each year.

The closing date for overseas applicants is 31 August each year.
